THE MOMENT.

On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped the first atomic bomb used in warfare over the city of Hiroshima, Japan. In an instant, the blast and ensuing firestorm devastated the city, marking the beginning of the nuclear age and a profound shift in the scale and consequences of human conflict.

As the mushroom cloud rose above the city, those involved in the mission began to grasp the magnitude of what had occurred. Among them was Captain Robert A. Lewis, co-pilot of the aircraft, who later reflected on the moment with the words: “My God, what have we done.”

This piece captures that moment: an archival photograph documenting the aftermath, paired with the words spoken in real time. Minimal. Unembellished. Heavy with consequence.

Designed with a gallery-style layout and printed in high resolution for clarity and detail, this tee presents history without interpretation — allowing the image and the words to stand on their own.

Part of THE MOMENT. collection — a series dedicated to moments that altered the course of history.
